I feel like Apple could really capitalize on a late November refresh. Let that thing fly off the shelves for Christmas.

Not that Apple is having any trouble selling them now. :D

Maybe they won't do iPad3 this year but maybe give a Retina Display option in the fall? That would be killer on it's own... but I'd guess they'd save that for a 3.0 version.

I saw a shot of the new iCal interface. Doesn't look like there's new features or anything, just looks different. I don't like it. They moved off brushed metal to a plastic look, like iTunes but lighter.

Thank you all for your help so far! I'm getting closer to some conclusions thanks to you!
The speed of my internet connection has been brought up a couple times, I have a T1 connection and plenty of bandwidth.

    [...]

These look great, but I'm thinking I might be able to build something to meet my needs for less money. I have the skills to put a server together and set it up, this is just my first time creating a rig from the ground up. Thoughts?

In answer to your earlier question about memory, if are just pushing files, maybe email and calendars to ten users (usually 2 or three), you probably don't "need" more than 8GB. You could go with 16GB. Don't get the memory from Apple as you will pay a premium. That is an easy cost saver there, but it only costs $400 to take it to 16GB, so on a $25k project, that might not be too much.

I'm not sure what you mean by "T1" for network connection. If it is a traditional T1, that is only about 1.5Mbps - which isn't really that fast. I have 20Mbps down/4 Mbps up from my cable company (but that is for residential use). Up speed is going to be important if you are serving files.

If I were building a rig for a business, I would try to get as much stuff that is turnkey as possible rather than building major parts myself. Time is money and you will spend a lot of time building a rig - and then having to maintain it. You are better off investing in one of the (expensive) arrays listed about (or similar). You just plug it into a rack and your MacPro and you will be good to go. Plus, at least a couple of those listed had redundant power supplies, etc. That is going to give you a lot of confidence in system availability (downtime, which is also money).

I don't care if those shots are real or fake. It's not like we're going to get something radically different than we have now.

In fact, ALL I want from Apple is more speed. Make the OS faster and I'll drop $100 no question.

That would be illegal with the new law as well. AFAIK, it's now illegal in France to wear garments that conceal one's face in public - not only for women but for men too. Since it applies to women and men equally, it's not discriminatory.

He could have argued it was for health reasons (one of the exceptions). Ski masks are allowed (sporting activities are exceptions also).

Avid is for mac as well, in fact it used to be mac only. CS5 is also for mac, the only major editing programs that aren't for mac are Sony Vegas and Grass Valley Edius, which don't have a major market share. So a 49% figure is probobaly accurate if you include the people running Avid and Adobe on Macs.

The share thing is quite tricky isnt it?
Last time there is a report adding the sale of ipads to the apple computers, then apple instantly overreaches at least two major pc competitors in only one quater? i believe most CS5 users run their job on non-mac platform, and adobe may have that data. Just curious whether CS5 shows the same performance on both platforms if identical computer resources are offered. I guess those editors have their preference since they usually possess several workstations for specific jobs and they can try it out.

A couple more balls and it's heavily into the world of diminishing returns for the Aussies. They're looking at 7 every over if they got us all out in the next two.

P.S. Is there a decent cricket shop nearby? I don't think Pietersen has another spare bat...

I went after work. I was about the 25th person to preorder. They did not say they would call me, they would not set up an appointment, & I was not comfortable that they would not sell the preorder phones if they had enough people waiting at the door. I got the impression that there would be a preorder station so if you preordered you could essentially go to the head of the line but if they ran out of stock on regular phones, they might start selling preorders. I told the guy that I have to work that day & can't stand in line so I'll call him that morning & see what the situation is & if they "have enough to cover all preorders" they'll hold one for me until that afternoon. It was not a good feeling but I'm fairly sure I'll get one within a week of launch at the latest.

Look at the British empire, once the most powerful empire in the world. Now I'm a second class citizen in my own country, where my government doesn't care about us, and we are laughed at by the rest of the world. Welcome to England your royal highness.

It's no longer your country. :(

After reading through this thread I went ahead and ordered 8GB of ram, upgrading from 4GB. I'm hoping it helps my load times in Starcraft II.

all the gosu gamers play on low settings so it really shouldn't matter.

It looks grey as can be down here. I think the ol' BBC may have meant 'fewer' showers than yesterday but who nose. Bare in mind that in June for Glastonbury, BBC said it would be sunny then it tipped it down and flooded the entire sight.

Playing for a draw is not how they've played all series, but it's difficult to know how what they'll do with so much at stake. You can feel the pressure mounting!

I think Apple would be smart to look at the new generation of Celerons for low-end systems.

The Celeron M 4XX series are basically a rebranded Core Solo with a 1 Megabyle L2 Cache. They're actually not bad performers. Certianly superior to the G4 chips they've been using in the iBooks, eMacs, and Mac Minis up until quite recently.

I've got a Toshiba Notebook with a Celeron M 420 and, with 1.5 Gigs of Ram, it runs the Beta of Windows Vista quite smoothly (ndeed, almost better than my Pentium D Desktop does - and far better than my Dual USB iBook 800 with 640 Megs of Ram has ever run Tiger).

    Basically, something like:

    Celeron M 420 (1.7 Ghz)
512 Megs of Ram (Single Chip, Please)
    Radeon x200
    60 Gig Hard Drive
    Combo Drive

Could probably ship for $599-$699. No Front Row, no iSight.

Throw in another Gig of Ram off-the-shelf and you've got a system which will run quite nicely - and dual boot, of course. I'd buy one.

The same basic configuration could be put into a Mini for $450ish, I'd guess.

haha, that was great, could not stop laughing and going after AT&T was perfect, forget driving call drops, how about walk call drops.

And the Drama continues. Now we just need jobs talking about the issue, and we have a full blow move made for tv.

I think that would be cool, although I already have Netflix(its my moms) I might get this because I am a huge apple fan and so I would have something like that when I move out or if my decided to quit using Netflix(doubtful) however that depends on a few thing price, quality and quantity. But maybe apple will have more new stuff available to instant stream. Anyway I think its a good idea and hope this is what apple actually plans to do.

Apparently so. On a side note, a carbon fiber or rubbarized back would have been better for the ipad. Either lighter or more durable (shows less wear).

It differs. I had one of the last white G3 iBooks, I think it was 800 MHz.
This was good looking (a transparent layer on the white shell) IMHO and while it scratched easily it lasted very long and I think the case was very durable. Ok, many of them had faulty logic boards, but that is a different story...
    Christian

I forgot about the iBooks (slightly before my laptop buying days). Those were pretty solid feeling. Only down side to that design was all the work you had to do to change the hard drive.

Look up Binaural sound. Sound these days can be mixed in such a way that, when output through a nice set of headphones, the effect is completely 3-dimensional. The sound technicians do all the fun stuff for you.

It's really impressive, honestly. I've played with it a bit. Almost too real.
i will check it out. but the question is, would we really want it in headphones at all? it would make us a little freaked out if it really sounded real, and it would take away our ability to differentiate between sound coming from the headphones and sound coming from around you, which would be a little scary.

I dont think that the piercing is all that noticeable if you were to talk to me face to face, since it is more on the side of my face and not more forward like a eyebrow or nose piercing. I like it, my friend likes it, boyfriend likes it, and the guys in SF like it, cruised me hard while walking to the train (especially the business men in the financial district, ages 30-50+, and yes there was no mistaking it for anything else, maybe its just Thursday is horney day for business men? )

It was a good day. :D

I like your piercing... I think though what was happening here is you got your piercing, you felt great, you were confident and I bet that really showed. I know women find that sexy, maybe men do too.

If you walked down the street with that same confidence I bet you would get "cruised hard":D (I never thought that was a phrase that would ever use :o ) :D
