Why doesn't everyone copy the AACs from all of their iTunes purchasing friends. Have those friends authorize that machine, and then go buy a ZOOM or whatever. Let MS scan for purchased tracks, and then pay $100's in licensing fees for the one purchased zoon. Then, pass the zuun onto a friend so they can do the same.

Only available once? Resell on eBay and at least that is 1 less new one being purchased and produced. (Plus then THEY'LL be pissed they can't get all their itunes songs in zuun format for free, haha!)

This patent clearly reminds me the one-time very popular misic instrument - TermenVox. The same method of operation. BTW - it's almost 100 years old. :-)
For me this is one more time where everybody can see the problems with the US Patent Law.

Exactly. It's more than just the $5 for the app and the data cap/bandwidth issues. It is wear and tear on a machine that has to be left on 24/7. It is the hydro cost of running that machine 24/7 instead of turning it off when you go out (this alone may well add up to more than $20/year!) If you don't want your main machine on 24/7 then it is the cost of another Mac mini or NAS or other device to act as the server instead.

It is also wear and tear on your 2 TB drive that has to be on 24/7, as opposed to working more like a backup drive that's only activated occasionally to back up your music files. It is the hassle of ensuring AudioGalaxy and your server and your ISP internet connection are all up and running when you need them to be (dealing with power outages, internet outages, maintenance, restarts, software updates, etc.)

$20/year might well be worth it for the uptime and hydro considerations alone.

right on. now if you have multiple machines and you already do that, then it doesn't make sense to do the cloud service. but i'm more of a mobile user and don't like desktops or big setups. The less stuff I own the better.

What if it's an actual Apple-branded TV? That's one of the latest rumors making the rounds, again  Actually, if Apple did come out with their own HD (1080p) TV, I would be very interested in purchasing it. It would have TV built into it (of course), and therefore would be able to do everything TV can do, only without having to attach a set-top box to the TV. Additionally, since Apple is designing it, the new actual HDTV would be magical :D

I really don't see Apple making an HDTV, but I've been known to be wrong before (although I don't like to admit it :o).

So physiological and psychological dependence don't exist then, it's all just a matter of willpower and choice?

They undoubtedly exist, as they're based on biochemical pathways. You can't necessarily change that, at least easily. I don't think that's the point hes trying to make, however, as he does have a point in the willpower effect-- it's basically the same as the placebo effect; your belief in something can have a positive chemical effect upon your bodies pathways. In the case of drug users, this can be seen in the "bottoming out" effect-- the addiction pathway doesn't suddenly flip, in fact in almost all cases it always remains permanently on, rather it's the person and their willpower who decides that they've had enough.

The human mind is an amazing thing, especially in its ability to either alter or deal with modified pathways caused by external stress factors.

(CBS/AP) Osama bin Laden, the long-time figurehead of the al Qaeda terrorist network, has been buried at sea after being killed in a U.S. raid in Pakistan.
U.S. officials told CBS News that bin Laden's body would be handled in accordance with Muslim traditions, which include strict rules on burial taking place within 24 hours after death.

Bin Laden was a Saudi national, but officials tell CBS News that the Kingdom was unwilling to have his remains repatriated.http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/05/02/501364/main20058795.shtml

From the screenshots alone, it looks like a Cocoa app, which pretty much guarantees it'll be faster because it won't have the extra Qt bloated code in it ;)

Right, and Cocoa isn't the slightest bit bloated? (can you say runtime messaging and binding overhead?)

Regardless of the relative difference in overhead, I'd expect it to be negligible in both cases. This is just the gui that sits around the virtual machine, a nice window dressing to make it accessible to the user. It should only be exercised when you're doing stuff like editing configurations or attaching devices. The real meat of either VMware or Parallels should have nothing to do with what gui toolkit they use to display the window.

It's exciting to see this finally moving along. I really think virtualization will play a much larger role in everyday computing in the future. Forget backwards compatibility nightmares, just virtualize it. I'm already hogging way too much disk space on my Macbook with a few Parallels VMs that I use on a regular basis. Whenever Apple releases an affordable desktop Mac that can take more than 4 GB of memory, I might check out VMware at that time and see if it's any better.

AT&T has hands down the worst service I have ever experienced.

It is as though they were operating in an emerging mobile phone world sometime in the early 80's when phones were the size of a Sat phone or you carried it in its own portable case.

In all the years I was with Verizon I had maybe 10 dropped calls.

They should be ashamed of themselves. But really what do they care, they have the iphone exclusively for the time being.
I must say this reflects poorly on Apple who picked these idiots in the first place.

Honestly, on a day to day basis, I think about going back and just giving up, the service is just terrible and I live in NYC! Where there are towers everywhere, and I usually have 5 bars.

Despicable profit seeking, customer service unfriendly whores is what they are!

"Time to press the magic button!" lbro said as he pushed a big blue button in the middle of the wall. chrmjenkins saw his life flash before his eyes. When his life stopped flashing itself in front of him, he saw a beautiful blue planet below. He at first thought it was Earth, but his hopes where soon shattered when lbro started shouting "Mammariea! Mammeriea! We made it on the third try!"

"I'm ever so cheerful to tell you that we are not orbiting the planet of Mammeriea, but the planet of Stupig." jav6454 commented. "Stupig! Take the ship down! I have a score to settle here!" demanded lbro. Down through the clouds the ship went reaching speeds that would have shamed even the fastest falling object. It landed just outside the biggest city, Cornilith.

lbro marched, with his two companions in tow, up to a little shop called Moyank's Strip Sandwich Ship Shop. After waiting in line and paying for some tickets, they soon sat down in a large auditorium. As the lights dimmed, a voice rang out across the darkly lit stage. "Welcome to my humble show and stage! Please enjoy yourselves and feast upon good feasts!"

The lights gradually came back up and revealed Moyank24 sitting on a stool behind a deli bar wearing a butchers outfit. "You there, in the front row! What kind of sandwich do you want?" She went around rows making sandwiches and presenting people with food. lbro was waiting for her to arrive. When she finally did he told her "I'd like the sugar cube that leads me to Mammeriea please." Moyank24 thinking this was a secret code that he had just made up, replied "We don't' have any sugar cubes. In fact, there isn't any sugar any where in this building. What kind of sandwich will you be having today?"

"I'll take peanut butter and jelly please." pipped up chrmjenkins. "PBJ it is." said Moyank24 as she walked back up to the stage to make him a sandwich. lbro, not happy for the lack of the sugar cube, turned to leave chrmjenkins and jav6454 alone in the sea of sandwich eating people. When he was approaching the fifth tot he last step from the exit, a shot rang out across the large room. He spun around to see Moyank24 fall into the orchestra pit, sandwich and tray following her.

Now horrified, he grabbed chrmjenkins and jav6454 and rushed them to the ship. "My sandwich!" exclaimed chrmjenkins. lbro, now very shaken up, decided to let jave6454 press the magic button. The ship vanished on the spot. Causing the indigenous multi legged people to wet all their crotches at once.

Many get garbage 3G speeds on AT&T in many areas anyway, so what's the point of having a 4G iPhone that GSM provider (insert AT&T) in the US can't even support on a mass basis?
Theoretically, the 4G LTE iPhone would work great in countries not named the United States of America.

59% of Apple's revenue comes from international markets.

I'm glad more regular people are starting to notice this as well. As soon as I saw signs of it in 4.2.1 I knew this was the usual slow down we come to expect, although they started early this time around.

I noticed it right away mate, and I thought I was being a little pernickety until I noticed more people cropping up in threads here and especially on the Apple discussion forums.

If Apple had added features to iOS 4 over the 4.1-4.3 updates which would explain degraded performance, then fair enough, but Home Sharing and Personal Hotspot are the biggest new feature in the iOS 4 updates, and I don't honestly don't think for one second anyone is stupid enough to believe either impact the way the iPhone UI animates.

Anyway, I've restored to 4.3.2 via iTunes and while the stock apps run perfectly, the real test is when the device has a load on it, so I'm going to install some third party apps and see how things go.

Here's an advance hint ... it'll be the exact same as 4.3.2.

What about those who lost their lives in 9/11? They probably deserved to live, but can you give them life back?

    Really?

Like I said - the world needed him alive, and I wish they had just captured him instead. Nothing constructive comes out of cheering over somebody else's death.

Um, are you not the same person who applauded the Columbine shootings and wished you had the balls to do something similar back in the day?

I remember that thread very well before it was moderated...so forgive me if I do not share the same opinion as you

Hey Hey Hey, what gives?:p

Moyank24's vote for me especially hurts me- you cut me deeply :( When people were voting for you and momentum was gaining against you, I made sure to mention that YOU were a cleared Villager in the last game when I was Seer.

NathanMuir, I understand. When I was WW in the game two games back, I think I killed you off. Sorry about that. I guess you carry a grudge, lol!

    * Never mind, questions deleted- I just re-read the OP *

Just to be spiteful, I'm going to vote for NathanMuir, simply because he is voting for me. Neener Neener!!

The pain will go away. And I promise that if the seer ever clears you, I won't vote for you.

Hmmm, why would an update of Front Row be deemed top secret...
Could this suggest that the mythical iHome might be coming soon?

Well, I don't know about the name considering iHome are a successful company that make a range of iPod-enabled clock radios but it certainly sounds like a good product.

    Then it has no meaning.

Honestly, that's a very stupid thing you said.

Wait, for something to have meaning it must have emotions attached to it ? Whatever happened to cold objective debate ?

Meaning is derived from the content, not from the emotions behind the statements. We're in a debate of facts, not in a subjective discussion. Emotionality has no place in the text.

Or am I not understanding what you mean here ? My post was objective in that I was not refusing to view the evidence, I just found his evidence to be contradictory and self-refuting and thus not applicable. I stated it as such and further explained when told I was "refusing to see" something that just wasn't there to begin with.

There was nothing to "cool down".

He did provide citation for the same; the engadget article.
But due to its inception being an Engadget based article, I wouldn't base any conclusions on that.

But yes, he did cite the argument.

His statement was not an argument. It was as a fact. And the Engadget article is not a citation to support the fact since it has been refuted by CNET, according to the very source AppleCorps used initially, TechCrunch.
