Letting Android users access the iTunes music store would actually be a very good idea for Apple.

If that happens I will be amazed. Android is so fragmented and un-secure, Apple would not release anything related to it. Im not saying that I wouldn't welcome iTunes for Android but I just cant see it ever happening.

This was a great video. If your interested in Leopard (which is a version of OS X BTW), its a must see.

The slides show some of the presentation a little more clearly, but they aren't useful by themselves.

    Hi folks,

I have an app that need a fairly complicate key array/nsdictionary list that it uses to calculate other information. The data isn't large and it needs to be accessible from several classes.

I've been reading around and people have used several methods, a singleton class , EXTERN variables, and property list.

I think apple recommends using plist?

And I would write code to populate the plist with the array. Where do I put this code, in the application didFinishedLaunching? So the xml/plist gets written or rewritten every time the application is launched?

    thanks.

Yes - MacTel. Bought a bare-bones system. Was able to at least sell it here for the cost of shipping to a collector to at least preserve it (complete with Apple Mac Clone OS disc and all paperwork).

I bought a couple of PowerComputing clones from eBay a few years back - I just didn't have the space for them and tried to give those away but couldn't. They were given to a computer disposal company... :(

I am getting into film editing on a small scale. I recently got a t2i and will be recording a lot of surf footage and down the road will be doing pictorial videos for a few clothing companies. So I was wondering would I really see a difference between the 13inch models compare to the 2 15" models? I plan on putting a SSD drive into which ever unit I decide on.

I am asking the community based on the fact that I don't want to spend 2,200 on the high end 15" model, when I would be getting similar results on the low end 13" model.

    Thanks

    Hi folks,

This is confusing me. I've done this before without issue, but I transferred 19 MiniDV tapes onto Mac using iMovie into DV format (while I edited another project on my other mac in FCP).

My client could only play some of the files on his Windows machine (win7) using Quicktime. Then he may have deleted Quicktime and now Windows Movie Maker has taken over and changed the default file opening so he can't open the others.

Yes, I do have a copy of the files on my computer.

I saw this suggestion from Apple's board, but I don't seem to have this option of dv-avi in Quicktime (7) Pro?

" Export "Movie to AVI" and use the DV Stream format.
This makes a .dv file inside and AVI container which will work with Movie Maker. "

Should I try exporting with QuickTime Pro as AVIs? Would that work on a PC?

Other clients have used the DV files so I'm a little confused why this client can't ?

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

    Cheers,
    keebler

I plan on running Windows via VMWare or Parallels on my MBP and I heard that Windows 7 requires more CPU to virtualize, I am just wondering if it's true, and if so, is it significant?

I will be running the virtualization probably constantly so I want to avoid anything that might slow down OSX. I hear 7 is the best choice for Boot Camp though, so I'm torn.

Any insight would be appreciated :)

Use XP SP3, if possible, because it runs fine with just 512 MB RAM! W7 requires at least 1 GB RAM, and runs fine with 2 GB RAM. The CPU-usage is low, in both cases: 5-15 percent on a 2.8 GHz Core2Duo, if you work just within the Windows Explorer, and < 5 percent if you do nothing within the Windows VM. VMware has optimized the VMware Tools (a collection of "invisible" drivers within the VM) for Windows, so Windows machines require only small amounts of CPU power.

When my home studio opened in 2000 i was running a pentium 3 1 ghz system with 512mb ram and a 60-gig hd. In 2002 i updated to XP and had no problems from then on. I was using cubase sx on pc and was having very little problems maybe 1 crash every 2 months. The main problem was speed... wasn't able to run many tracks with the plugins I had. So this Oct. I purchased a brand new dual2.0ghz g5 with 512mb ram and a 160-gig hd. I purchased motu Digital Performer 4 and the g5 came with panther. Now in January I'm beginning to regret this decision. First of all i must say OSX is flawless. It's a pleasure to work with everyday. Now on the hardware side. The speed is very good but I'm an audio engineer and obviously the control room must be as quiet as possible. The system itself...pretty silent. Now the crunching squeaking and chirping that is coming out of my speakers and headphones is far form silent. My clients complain almost everytime about the noise that is coming from their headphones in between takes. Digital Performer is awful. I have never used a program that loves to randomly quit to often. My recommendation for any audio engineer or musician/engineer stay away from the first generation g5' and digital performer. The combination of the two has all but ruined my mac experience.

My 867 mhz G4 PB takes 15 hours to crunch a unit....I thought that was decent, but if your 450mhz G4's are crunching a unit at 12-14 hrs that would make my PB really slow. huh. And yes, I have it at maximum processor.

is Skype as good as its hype, or even half as good as its hype?

I've read in Skype-crazy blogs that Skype is supplanting text IM in many businessworld circles. Is that true? Or just in certain communities?

    also:
    1) what is 56K performance
    2) how hard is it *really* to pay for, and dial from skype to phone?

Very good question, I really liked it....I still call it the "Apple button" out of habit, plus then anyone using the machine knows with a quick.

I guess it makes keyboards more universal, but who really cares? If someone is running Linux or Windows on a Mac, I'm sure they can figure out what they Apple button equals in Windows)

But not a huge issue at the end of the day

IF you ever think about parting the system and games out, I might be interested in the snow boarding game depending on the price.

PM me if you ever consider it.

    Thanks!
    Rob

Alright, well I'll wait a while on the package and if nothing happpens or if everyone wants an individual thing, I'll consider it.
