This. I hate having to charge my phone after minimal usage every damn night.

Without more details I say there is an issue at your phone you should have a Genius look at.

The explain to us, why are you still updating? Incremental updates are usually not worth the trouble.
This would be a much better option if far too many developers didn't default to setting the 'required OS' for their new apps to whatever the most recent update was regardless of whether they need the features or not. It starts getting annoying a few weeks after an update when you can't install apps because you're not running the newest firmware...

The chip alone doesn't really distinguish the macbook from the macbook pro. In the wake of the first wave, the pro was upped in GHz just a bit so that no model was slower than a macbook, but for that period of time they use the same exact chip but were obviously not the same computer. The fact that the pro has better display real estate, a dedicated graphics card, the aluminum shell, 2 firewire ports, a slot for an express card, a double layer superdrive and now support for 3GB of RAM make a seriously big difference when compared to the macbook's hardware. simply adding C2D wont make it equal to the pro at all. also, how much more overhead does apple actually see compared to what they'd make if macbooks had core 2 duos in them?

I agree. They don't distinguish them with different processors, just different clock speed ranges. MBP from 2.16 to 2.33 and MB (I would guess) 2.0 to 2.16.

I guess its coming with 64 GB... You have to decide to buy an iP5 with 32GB or an shiny white iP4 with 64 GB - your call.

As far as I know there was even a rumor about 64 GB storage.

Who is going to pay for news these days?

    Tony

I think people will pay for 'news' when they realize that they're actually paying for reporting. What passes for 'news' for free online is often just crap.

Premature maybe. But I have an 8 core with 12 gigs of RAM (a poster child system spec for FCP currently not being able to take advantage of it) and I'm guessing:

    12 gigs of RAM + 8 cores + GPU optimization > 4 gigs of RAM + 1.5 cores.

It might be a premature guess, but it's as safe a prediction as any I've ever made. ^_^

There is a big difference between speed of app launch/render bar/save etc and speed of editing.

All that hardware is great, but to that doesn't mean you can edit a piece quicker than you would with the current software on an older computer.

If editing where about having the fastest system, anybody could buy their way in to a job. People get hired for their skills.

You don't need to take a country by direct force when you set up their governments to bend to your whims. Why do you think certain leaders get installed by us? Just because the USA is very careful about the PR doesn't mean we aren't in control through various means.

That is how you see it ... "bend to your whims?"

I however disagree with your opinion of the USA

In my post I was referring to megabytes not megabits. I get a solid 50megabits down and 10megabits up. I think this should be sufficient to get the system up and running with a possible upgrade in the future.

Having said that, I am usually working with files less than your 600MB benchmark because they are all webpage elements.

Sorry for the confusion, thank you all for your advice. I've been carefully reading each post and appreciate your continued support.
ah right sounds better, what are your actually type/size of files if you could do a average?

The 11" is the true successor to the 12" PowerBook, simple as that. I had one of the original BlackBook's, and while it was an immense step up power-wise, it never felt as portable as the 12" PB did. The 11" Air brings the best of both worlds.

157/0 at lunch, some solid Aussie batting, some so-so English bowling, this is going to be a long day in the field if the rain holds off.

That said, this is already a rain effected series, Australia wouldn't have drawn the 3rd test if we hadn't lost a day to rain, and England would already have won the Ashes, so winning by a rain effected draw is fine by me, that's cricket and it goes both ways.

    @mac1984user

    >> This brings me to a question about Bookends. Does it have support for multiple referencing/citation formats? Is Harvard one of them?

Bookends has about 250 pre-defined formats, and Harvard is listed as one of them. The good thing is that they can all be adapted as required, and this is not very hard to do.

There is a test version of Bookends that you can download and use for free (with a 50 reference limit) at www.sonnysoftware.com. Try it! And do not forget try to drag PDF documents into the main window and have Bookends look for all the citation data automatically (uses the DOI code, which is present in most publications published in the last decade or so).

PS I am not associated with Bookend in any way, just a satisfied user.

I work for UCSD's Resnet department and I have also noticed a sharp incline of mac users this year. A little under half the support calls/appointments I get now are for macs (which says something about their ability to "just work").

Personally, if I were to buy another computer atm, it would also probably be a mac. The decision is quite simple now that mac's are reasonably priced and can run windows just the same.

No way will millions of copies be running at businesses. They'll be the last to upgrade from 2000/XP.

    Remember, Vista ain't done 'til SP1! :)

Yep, there was a story in the paper last week about how the National Australia Bank (we're talking billions upon billions of dollars, they've got fingers in pots all over the world, massive corporation and they employ thousands) has only just got around to rolling out XP over the old 2000 Pro systems. They won't be looking to upgrade to Vista for a few years yet.

I dare say it's the same for most big business, they don't want to risk anything by upgrading to the latest and greatest until it's had years of real-world testing and updates.

    What does this mean?

Do you honestly foresee a war so catastrophic that it would wipe out the world's largest trading partner, 5% of the population, and the second oldest written Constitution?

If America has been stubborn enough to survive a civil war continuous social conflict, and the metric system, it isn't going anywhere.

    Ah...the metric system. Such a nightmare. :D

I think eventually more and more "American stuff" will use the metric system. At this point on most "large objects" it doesn't really make that much difference. And the "pros" trained in this stuff can use both. In the small scales even Americans use the metric system. Especially when more nanotech products start hitting the markets, ppl will get use to the metric system. I mean, look at the iPod nano! :p

As a parent of a college freshman, after having dealt with Windows computers for many years, I can't imagine sending the kid off to school with a Windows machine. So far, not one problem with his macbook, not one virus, not one problem with spyware. Not one problem with theft! ( I locked it to his desk and won't tell him the combination....) ( he did come home the other day asking where my skill saw was, however,.... Hmmmmmm.....)

Now locking the computer to his desk and not telling him the combo seems a bit ridiculous.. you may as well have bought him an imac and gotten a faster processor, bigger screen, and paid less...

I'm wondering that how does Apple live without Steve and Ive :(
Steve has spent the last decade turning Apple into a company that operates in the image of his philosophy. That is instilled in the very essence of the company. Apple will continue without Jobs and Ive, whenever that may occur, for quite a while.

I ordered my iPad 2 at 10:00 p.m. on 3/11 and was originally given a ship date of 4/1.

I just received notification (late last night) that it's shipped and will be arriving on 3/30.

Looks like Apple is getting caught up on orders to me...

Good to see; ordered mine at the same time - still waiting on the shipment notification.

I believe, for a server, it offers much more. I think it has redundant power supplies, lights-out operation and includes Mac OS X server. Since you obviously don't need those things (since you see no value in them) I don't know why you would want one.

However, it's still way overpriced compared to other server manufacturers providing the same thing. Dell's pricing on their website is cheaper and you can probably get about 1/4 off of that by going through a rep. I'd be curious to know if Apple offers the same kind of sales techniques to get a better deal, or if what you see is what you get?

As it is, our local server builder can make a machine for about half the price with the equivalent components. Apple's marking up these machines way too high IMHO.
