i don't understand why some people would long for 12 inch ones when macbook is 13 inches. don't tell me 1 inch will make that big of a difference.

actually it makes a huge difference as the macbook screen is wide aspect, as opposed to the 12in powerbook, which has a squarer screen. the footprints of each are very different, with the MB being almost as large as a MBP's footprint!

    As I pointed out upthread:
Anybody who thinks this is anywhere near what Dubya got us into with Iraq has the reading comprehension of a head of cabbage.

    To wit:

I'm not surprised. Every administration grabs more and more power. I get depressed just seeing how everyone takes it as the status quo and defends it. The Constitution was set up almost as if to stop one person from being able to take up to war on a whim. Well, if Obama has that right, then George Bush III, or whoever will push the limits of his powers even further. I guess that's the power of precedence. If you look at the Constitution, it vests in the Congress the exclusive power to declare war. Things just have a way of changing. I thought Bush was bad enough with Iraq. Now Obama's actions are even worse than Bush's. Obama didn't even put up the charade of making a case.

It's fascinating how quickly the Democrat party has turned into the party of war... trying to justify it legally and morally at every corner. It's almost as if their anti-war stance for the past 10 years was a complete farce, and was more anti-Bush than anti-war, anti-intervention. Now that Obama is at the helm, core philosophy no longer matters, consistent morality no longer matters, only justifying war and protecting the political future of the first black president.

The constitution was written in regards to war specifically to stifle the power of the president which the founders knew would be more predisposed to war, and to put the power in the hands of the people via congress. In fact, as Tom Woods recently put it...

If you think about it, it's not all too surprising that some of these "professionals" are getting so worked up and sulky over this release. The notion that "pro editing" can belong to just about anyone, rather than an exclusive circle of elites, poses an existential crisis. Apple's re-thinking of editing is also a re-thinking of what it means to be "professional". The announcement sheds light on a future in which their "advanced", learned techniques are no longer advantageous. The "industry pros" are facing the plight of impending impotence. It's not something anyone would really openly admit, but I think they're feeling a bit naked, stripped of their status.

Who can blame them for being pissy?

Being a professional myself I remember having those fears a few years ago. In fact we lost a large client because one of the employees thought that her high school son could do the same level of work that we did. If that were true I would say shame on us, in reality the client came back to us a few months later when the kid couldn't actually produce the same level of edit quality and creativity that we do.

The price drop doesn't bother me one bit. I think if anything it does open up the door for a teenager to start learning on high end software, then by the time they've finished college and have a sense of who they are as an editor they'll be a welcome, proficient addition, to someones company. I think it serves everyone in the end.

How much time does it take to switch between OS's when using Parallels?
You're switching to an open window running Windows. It's instant.

It's really about the same as a Remote Desktop Connection window - the Parallels copy of Windows is running completely inside an OSX window. The Windows taskbar is at the bottom of the window, etc.

They're not using OLED screens. From the iPod nano tech specs:

It's definitely just a regular LCD screen.

oops, not sure how I missed that. I even combed through their page

I am seriously thinking of getting out of Windowsworld and the new 24" iMac looks great!:D

From the listed specs this will really rock.

Anybody have advice on whether I should wait for Leopard to come out or not?

I don't think either of those albums exhibit that -- the first four British albums in stereo do, but they've never been available on CD in stereo, just mono. Rubber Soul has a few songs that don't work well in headphones (eg Girl) but Revolver is mixed well!

My point is, the ping-pong effect, when it was used, was deliberate. It does sound strange now, but I remember when these albums came out people listened to them on headphones and thought the effect was cool.

I'm no Beatles historian by any means, but correct me if I'm wrong: weren't the first albums recorded in mono? The stereo versions were later, rather crude simulations of stereo, which is why they never made it to CD.

I'll wait for the Media Centre Edition to ship - that's one of the "super secret" parts of OSX 10.5 that hasn't been shown.

Could you expand on this? What will the Media edition add to the pot? Thanks.

I am professional editor. I get paid to edit. I just dont edit giant films. I think there is a little discrediting going on for what makes a professional editor.......A good editor is a good editor, it is an art. Just because someone is an "expert" on AVID, PP, FCP doesnt mean they are an good editor. Same as someone who knows how to put paint on canvas isnt necessarily Van Gogh.
I think this version will help us tell stories easier and more efficient. It is still up to the editor what he/she will do with the tool.

    Amen!

... then sit back and watch everyone complain about the high priced products! Yeah, sounds like a winner.

They make cars in the US, and domestic cars are typically less expensive than foreign ones. This argument really doesn't fly.

Stop making excuses for US companies that build their products elsewhere. We CAN manufacture things in this country; we used to do it a lot more and the products were affordable.

My Apple IIe says "Made in the USA" on the bottom. It's sad that we never see that on computers anymore.

If walmart refuses to sell hollywoods dvds its not like the consumers arent going to find a way to buy them. Infact it hurts walmart more. Dvds wll be purchased. Its just that walmart will not be the retailer they purchase from. I dont understand why they think they have so mch power. If tommy wants a copy of "(Movie name here)" for christmass, mom, dad, sibling, or spouse will find a way to get it.

    Interesting discussion.
It seems that many people pirate Adobe products because they want to learn the tools, but don't have a job to pay for it's high prices. Those who are anti-piracy seem to argue that if you have the tools and the know-how than you can easily make enough money to pay for the price.

Do those in the anti-piracy camp have major issues with someone who pirates Adobe products, but doesn't "profit" from them?....i.e doesn't make even enough money to cover the costs of the original products or even makes zero dollars?

Of course it is still illegal, but it seems like everyone's defense revolves around "if you make money off of a product than you should pay for it"..

I personally feel that pirating is wrong in ALL cases. However, I couldn't care less if someone pirated it, and profited in NO way.

Piracy aside, I do think it's interesting to see Adobe going this way, and I don't think it will pay off. At a time when Apple is enabling developers with it's App store to be able to charge less for apps, but earn more money with a higher volume of downloads. Not to mention the customer gets some amazing benefits by using the app store: integration with the os (think Launchpad), easy updates, multiple licenses across a users account, use of itunes account to make purchases, etc

Seems like Adobe is just BEGGING for developers to take away their business. It's already happening with pixelmator, aperature, etc doing 80% of what adobe does, but at fraction of the cost.

I give it one more year, and Adobe's products will be entirely replaceable by App store Apps that will be SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. Developers will be making their money, the apps will be cheap enough that piracy won't be as big of an issue, and everyone will be happy (except Adobe....and those heavily invested into their software model, and business).

Has anyone seen anything about being able to redownload TV shows we already purchased with the higher resolution. I haven't seen anything, but if Apple doesn't offer this, I'll be pretty peeved off as I just bought these shows recently.

I'd like to know this as well.

Because some are successful does not mean all can be? That's crap. I'm not lumping them into one group, i'm saying their race has a disproportionate amount of poverty compared to others. And we're not even talking about the US, this thread is about Britain. Many blacks in Britain are immigrants, unlike in the US. So they have no history of anything there.

There are plenty of successful white people as well as plenty of white people just getting by. What is your point? What do you think the reason for these statistics is?
