Maybe they won't be 100% compliant, but unless something earth shattering happens before 802.11n is finalized, I'd expect that many draft-n products could be made compatible with equipment using the the final standard, with little more than a firmware change.
And wasn't 802.11g still in the draft stage when it was introduced in the AirPort Extreme? (Extreme was introduced on January 7, but 802.11g was not ratified until June 2003.)
That is something I've been wondering - what is the approval process like for these standards? Specifically, why does this take so long for approval?
I think its great that Apple is putting the pre-N capable hardware in to the iMac's, MP and MBP already just awaiting a pre-N capable base station to make it fly. Oooh - maybe they will intro this in November to have a sale on one for Black Friday? Steve, how about it?
Certainly the pre-n stuff will be turned on in January for the iTV intro. Here's a thought - so will there be MB and MM update prior to iTV so that the entire line will have pre-n hardware and be capable of communicating to the iTV at full tilt speeds? I'm guessing so!

True. There is also the fact that the e-paper technology is B&W only.
I am not sure about the physics of a double screen, but eInk has a color screen (not quite as nice as the B&W model :( ).
now, why I want one......
My main reason for wanting one is the increasing number of PDF technical books from places like Apple (ADC library), Pragmatic Programmers, APress, and SpiderWorks. I want to have one device I can take with me (perhaps with some of my own notes and graphics outputed from various programs in PDF on the Mac) that can view all these works. The eInk screens are really, really nice and don't fatigue your eyes like an LCD. Audiobooks tend not to work for programming books and references.

This rumor has popped up before--and I think it's almost a BETTER use of a large(r) screen than videos. If my music was already in my pocket, and then as an "extra" with no additional bulk I could also have a book to read, that would be very cool.
As with movies, though, I'd prefer a subscription model (and priced low accordingly). I seldom watch the same movie--or read the same book--twice. It's not like music.

Almost all products that are manufactured by Foxconn are produced by hand. When labor is essentially free it's going to be cheaper than using a machine.
Do you know what the labor cost on an iPhone is? About 85 cents.
And do you know how long it takes to assemble one?

Time to buy an ipod, leave it in the box, then sell it in 30 years for $10,000? Try get Jobs to sign it first! How about $100,000?
And the first ipod had firewire?!?!?! What is this! We've downgraded!

I agree....but wouldn't it be better to say, malicious hackers? I think that most hackers are good people and just like to tinker with things. Of course there's always going to be some bad apples.
Yeah, hacking is just taking something and tinkering with it to make it do something that it's not really designed to do, isn't it? This can sometimes be useful and fun, but can obviously also be done for malicious purposes, and that's sometimes referred to as "cracking" and the ones who do it as "crackers".
Here's the link to the main blog page, with video: link (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/)
What do you think?
Wait a second. They use a 3rd party wireless card, and he said in the end that "the flaw is not in the Apple operating system as we used 3rd party hardware". I'd say that's quite different from the impression I got from reading the macrumors headline here. A default MacBook using the built in Airport isn't vulnerable as far as I can tell.
He also said that the exploit isn't as trivial as a generic buffer overflow. Now, to exploit a generic buffer overflow, you need to have a certain level of l337ness to begin with, so that means you don't have to worry about your neighbour braking into your wireless network, just yet. Unless someone releases premade tools to do the exploitation, I'd say that normal people and small businesses don't have to worry at the moment.

The other company's comparable machines to the MacBook Pro have C2D processors. The ones that compete against the MacBook don't for the most part. Apple didn't drop the ball.
Correct! The MB is an excellent value as-is. Of course we all want "more" for our money, and I expect Apple to drop the C2D into MBs soon - if not now, by MWSF at the latest. And if they offer a graphics chip as a BTO option, that's just icing on the cake - at their current price-point, I wouldn't be surprised if they keep integrated graphics, though (in part to push sales of MBPs for those needing a graphics chip.)

LOL! This is just a Hollywood studio's desperate wet dream.
They are realizing that 3D is turning into a fad instead of the money cow they were expecting. With a few exceptions the studios are losing a lot of money with 3D and now hope Apple will turn their turd into gold...
I agree

We heard something really similar to that when every other company released video-playing mp3 players before Apple did, and Jobs said he didn't see anybody wanting to have portable video. Well, Apple bit its tongue and released it, calling it "innovation".
Actually, I believe he said portable video was a waste of time becuase there was no content to PLAY on these devices...and back then, there wasn't. Apple released their iPod with video AND the ability to actually use it.

Nice little bump, right about what I expected except even the low end should have at least 1GB of RAM.
I still have my fingers crossed the website is down because Apple is finally filling the product line hole of a headless machine in between the Mac mini and the Mac Pro for those of us who already have a nice monitor and need something more powerful than a mini but less expensive than a Mac Pro.... A nice mini-Tower using Conroe chips in the $1200-$1800 range would be nice...

Here are a couple of photos of my half of our home office... recently made some pretty significant changes (including switching to Apple).

The links to the images on Flickr contain a pretty detailed list of what's in each of the photos above.
It's not a bad space to sit, listen to music and edit photos...
Where can I find this desk that your using? I really need a new desk and that desk looks awesome! From what I can tell it has adjustable height right?
Thanks

I'll wait for the Media Centre Edition to ship - that's one of the "super secret" parts of OSX 10.5 that hasn't been shown.
Could you expand on this? What will the Media edition add to the pot? Thanks.

No more PowerBook. Love the new Mac Mini, I would put in an SSD, but they're still too expensive, and I really don't need one. Its extremely quiet anyway.
Stock Mac Mini 2.4ghz + 4gb of RAM (Crucial off Newegg)
20" Cinema Display (I'm going to mount that powerbrick behind the desk, I hate looking at it)
Bose Companion 2 speakers
64gb iPad WiFi
160gb iPod Classic

Why isnt anyone talking about how ugly this interface looks? White on Dark backgrounds = not fun on the eyes. Please tell me this isnt how it will look. The background rendering and all that stuff is great, but I HOPE this interface is customizable and has the ability to look a little like the final cut of yesteryear.

Eff Wal-Mart.
And if you shop at Wal-Mart when other choices are available, then eff you, too.
People think the Antichrist will be a single person. I tell you that it's very possible that the collective amount of evil within the organization known as Wal-Mart qualifies it for Antichrist status.
(In case you are still wondering, I don't much care for Wal-Mart.)

I don't shop at WalMart, and stories like this are the reason why. Sam's Club, screw them too. Last time I was in a WalMart, which was years ago, the vibe was just weird. I don't mean to offend anyone but it was trashy and cheap and I felt like some hillybilly standing at an intersection where I could buy a DVD player(by some company I never heard of) for $45, generic cheese puffs, fishing poles, or some crappy sandals.
