Volkswagen has taken a new direction with the design of their Passat.
Whereas most automakers are putting more thought into bringing more and better small cars to the market these days, Volkswagen is making their new Passat bigger and a lot cheaper. (http://jalopnik.com/5729079/the-2011-volkswagen-passat-less-wagen-more-volk)
The engine choices remain good, especially the rare diesel option, but how are they going to shave $7000 off the base price of the Passat AND make it larger without turning it into just another Camry/Malibu/Taurus/Impala/Accord soulless bore-fest McSedan?

Sadly, that is exactly what they are doing. Have you seen the new US market Jetta? They stripped out a lot of the options that used to be standard, lowered the quality of the interior, and made a lot of other cuts in order to lower the price. That "under $16k" price they brag about has the ancient and underpowered 2.0L naturally aspirated four (used to be the 2.5L 5), a solid rear axle (used to be independent rear suspension), and rear drum brakes.

Hey, I'm not sure how to refer to this.. I think its a string format but thought I would come here to get some help.
I am wanting to get my user to enter a 20 character string, they will be numbers and I want to after every fifth number to insert a hyphen.. as the person is typing... how can this be done?

Personally, I find theocracy distasteful, but to describe Shari'a as stupid extremist ideology is absurd. From what I have read of it, much is a fairly reasonable social code. Hardly any worse than what prevailed through most of Europe's history.
Are you frickin kidding? Sharia law IS stupid extremist ideology. That's the only way to describe it. Maybe you should read some more. No, better yet, go live in a country that has it. When you get 99 lashes for expressing your religious beliefs, we'll see how "reasonable" you think it is. Why are you talking about europe's history and comparing it with sharia law today? Yes it was bad, but we're in the 21st century now and europe has changed quite a bit, and for good reason. Countries with sharia law are barbaric and seem to be intent on staying in the 15th century. A High Court in the UK has ordered SONY to disolve its merger with BMG. Fighting this could cost valuable resources.
If they lose, the cost of breakup could well put SONY under. Remember BETAMAX. Yes, I know SONY/BMG is the music arm of the company-but it will be a drain on the whole company.
Dude, seriously give it a rest. You've just shot down your credibility because SonyBMG is a separate division that Sony Corp. itself owns a 50% stake in with Bertlesman(n) owning the other 50%. That ruling has no effect on Sony Corp. itself. You citing this on a forum is as lame as the many people on Digg or Slashdot who rush to any thread concerning Sony and post about RootKits when again, it was SonyBMG that did that and not any other SonyCorp. division. Point is, any negative ruling against SonyBMG has no impact at all on Blu-Ray development nor will it give any traction to HD-DVD.
Plus, a UK High Court does not have the power to dissolve SonyBMG. Perhaps for the UK subsidiary division but not for the entire worldwide operations of SonyBMG. The only way SonyBMG would be forced to break up would be if the European Commission or the U.S. Justice Department took action and won in their respective court systems.

Both the current HD-DVD and Blu-Ray machines aren't using the greatest chip decoders which are causing both to not truly output at 1080i, let alone 1080p. This will be corrected when the second generation decks from both platforms ship with the new Sigma Designs decoders in the next couple of months. While it is true that Sony is shipping titles in MPEG2 until they bring out their own hardware, once that happens, the encoding in H.264 will be noticibily better than the HD-DVD titles that will continue to ship in Microsoft's inferior VC-1 (ahem, Windows Media 9) codec because Microsoft in truth is supporting HD-DVD simply because it uses the Microsoft iHD software instead of Java (like Blu-Ray does) and thus earns royalities with each HD-DVD deck shipped and every VC-1 encoded movie title also shipped. While Blu-Ray spec wise supports VC-1 (in addition to H.264 MPEG4 and MPEG2), it will be a very cold day in Hell when Sony decides to ship a Blu-Ray disc encoded in VC-1.
The moral of the story is to pick up a Blu-Ray deck when the second (or third) generation hits, and only buy discs encoded in the H.264 codec instead of the current MPEG2 versions. At that time, HD-DVD will be as useful as a Philips CD-i deck or a Circuit City DIVX player.

we got down to #57 with 202 million points on 20 July 2010.

Why all the negatives? Patches are a good thing.
They are... but the JB people hate it because it breaks their JB if they upgrade.
Anyway... there are a couple annoying little bugs in the current software so an update is good.
I've seen the "unlock the home screen" bug. Happened once or twice to me. And I've noticed slightly worse battery... but the last update really seemed to fix that for me.
Good to see Apple proactive in keeping updates coming.

What exact external HDD do you connect via what interface (USB & Firewire) to what exact Mac with what exact Mac OS X version?
And what do you mean with "it won't repair" via Disk Utility? Can you provide more info for that?

I did something similar once. Basically a combination of turning off then on the external drive, while connected and/or restarting my computer fixed this.
Somewhere some deamon still thinks the drive is connected, it's just a matter of getting it to reset.

240 x 3 = 720 minutes / 60 = 12 hours current shuffle battery time

By this time next year, the memory chips will definitely be a lot cheaper so 2G (or more) will be easily do-able in something as small as the Shuffle for a decent price. Hopefully the battery life can be improved as well. Not much use being able to store 36 hours of music and not being able to listen to it.

I bought a song from the iTMS a couple days ago (Delirium featuring Sarah McLachlin - Silence) and I can't get ot downloaded.
I'm on dial-up but I don't think that's the problem since I've already bought two entire albums from there (one a day after I bought this) and both downloaded flawlessly, just not this particular song, anybody know how to fix this or anything?

Parents should be slowly divesting themselves of big, life decisions to their children as they grow. Yes, you can set rules of the house but you can't actually actively prevent him from doing something.
Who's talking about decisions? It's about teaching responsibilities.
Obviously you can't prevent any person from doing as they desire, but setting rules is not a prison sentence, it's a loving parent exercising their responsibility to set guidelines for a yet not grown up (technically) young adult who doesn't know any better. Sure they need to learn by their mistakes, but tell that to him when he's 19 and responsible for a baby who never asked to be brought into the world. He'll have to grow up then won't he or can he?

This app: movie montage http://www.findleydesigns.com bills itself as iphoto for movies. (quicktime only I believe) It is a crippled free version but check it out.
Very cool thanks for the tip on that. It will work for 5 minutes at a time with some other minor limitations. Purchase price is $10 which seems pretty fair.

Nvm. figured out how to JB. However, once I got loader on there, i was unable to get it to download Cydia. It said I had no disc space, but I had just restored, so the iPod was empty. Hmm..

The White IP4 will look sick, much like how awesome the white iPad 2 looks. I think the demand will still be strong for it due to all of the September IP5 rumors, and the fact that I know tons of people that have broken old iPhone are are waiting for the white to release. I would not expect crazy demand for it, but sales should be very good.
