Once again you are proving that you know nothing about production issues.

Guilty as charged, which I indicated by adding 'supposed' to the post you quoted. This is not for lack of research, but rather due to the lack of forthcomingness from Apple. Most companies would have stated what the issue was, the corrective steps being taken to address it, and an apology for the massive (10 months out of an avg 12 month product life:eek:) delay. Apple ? Nothing, nada, zip, zilch....and that was one of the many disgraces I alluded to originally. Making a promice, not delivering on it for 10 months, and not being open as to the reason(s) why = DISGRACEFUL and DISGUSTING

There is a big difference between making a few samples to show and circulate and real en masse production.
There are also issues with white products that only show up after a certain amount of time.
White tends to have aluminum oxide pigments and in many cases light inhibitors. Depending on the material used there may have been a delayed photo mechanical reaction.
That especially, when several layers of white are used.
But I am only guessing, the real issues are only know to Apple.

Apple is a preeemint designer of consumer electronics in the World, in fact based on market cap, they are the second most valuable company in the United States. They are not some bush league designers, that much is certain. Apple had 6 months to find this issue, SIX MONTHS - plenty of time I think to do pre-produciotn runs and to identify the issue. The white iPhone 4 should never had graced Steve Jobs Keynote unless that were sure they could deliver it in a TIMELY manner. The fact that is did is another disgrace of the White iPhone 4.

You also know absolutely NOTHING about the real issues other than what people speculated.

Yes, I know nothing about the delay....due to the disgraceful actions of Apple and their total lack of openness. Again, I said "supposed" in the post you quoted to indicate I was not certain of the issue. I've added the definition for your edification, as you seem to not know the meaning of the word.

Supposed: (verb) assume that something is the case on the basis of evidence or probability but without proof or certain knowledge

For Apple to recognize it and NOT ship it, just because they showed it proves what a good company they are.

Whatever time it then took to fix it is unimportant.

So being 10 months late on a product, whose historic refresh cycle is ~12 months, is "unimportant". I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I think a delay that encompasses 80%+ of the historic product cycle is kind of important. To say otherwise speaks volumes.

Oh, and try telling the people who waited 10 months to get one or who got a black one but really wanted a white one how "unimportant" this issue is. I'm sure your comment will fall on deaf ears.

No it doesn't. Seriously, I've visited this site zillions of times and Safari has never crashed on it.

As for resizable text areas, it's a good idea in theory. Too many "web designers" think they are designing for print...the user is supposed to have control over how things look. That's one of the whole points of the web; everything should be as relative as possible.

    --Eric

If the user (who knows nothing of design, fonts, color, etc.) has control over the presentation of a company's image then there is absolutely no point in having a designer. Might as well have the intern throw something up there. Think before you write.

Apple should simply look at your posts and do the opposite. Success guaranteed.

I don't see your point other than trying to embarrass another user of this forum. Unless Apple is planning on integrating more social aspects into Maps, I don't see why they need to spend resources on this. And given Apple's history with trying to create social products, I don't have much faith in them doing just that. If Apple thinks they can do it better, all the more power to them. But if they are just creating their own Maps because they don't like Google, then I don't see how the users benefit.

I will rather wait for some unbiased 3rd party tests before making any conclusions. Of course AMD praises their own product in their own tests. The Intel machine could be running ancient drivers for example.

    Llano looks promising though.

weren't there other rumors regarding an "os x lite" edition earlier in the year?

I think the consensus is that Apple abandoned the idea of building a phone completely from the ground up, which was their original idea. The question is *what* exactly they abandoned. At some level it makes sense for them to use Symbian or some other existing OS in order to get the benefit of 3rd party app availability.

Then again, that rather un-Apple like, since I would think Apple would want to have total control over the interface. Maybe Apple *will* come up with a real-time "OS X Lite" operating system, and the 3rd party apps will have to be Java apps, basically. If Apple makes sure that Java performs well on the iPhone then that would be their best strategy...

I wish I could have just 1/10000 of that right about now!

12pb. That's an awful lot. I hope we start hearing some solid details on this service soon.

Are Apple only going to have 1 data center? Google seem to have 30-40.
Seems a bit silly to have a single point of success in this day and age.

Pity those who live a long way from the server, ouch! I notice a difference when I switch content providers from Manchester to London (I'm based in Manchester) on Steam. I don't think this data centre is for use outside the US...

Of course she didn't. But certainly if one was dressed as a 21 year old prostitute they'd get much more attention from whomever would commit a rape.

How is that? Christians are making their women wear burkhas now?

So now women girls are required to wear certain clothing things for their own protection?

To place the blame for rape, sexual assault on women is ob-seen. Not only that but it propagates some of the ideas which encourage sexual assault. The idea that a women is "asking for it" because of how they dress.

Stating that a girl/women caused her own rape because of what she was wearing is exactly what Islamic extremists say when a women is assaulted for failing to wear her burka...

I want retribution, so do most americans.

We have a right to defend ourselves. But revenge is not self-defense. We had a right to pursue bin Laden in order to bring him to justice, but the way we went about doing it reaped a sickening harvest of death, destruction and loss of international credibility all out of proportion to even bin Laden's value as a target. Al Qaeda was designed to function without a head, and bin Laden was a willing martyr. Some retribution.

The real reason for the celebrations over his death is a perceived saving of face and rationalization of all the money and human flesh expended in the effort. You can take bin Laden's corpse; I'll take the trillion plus dollars and ten thousand American (and unnumbered Iraq/Afghan etc.) lives back, given the choice.

As for enhanced interrogation, go for it. Skunk, i know you want the best for the world and im sure you're good intentioned, but many of your views are simply unrealistic. The world isn't that rosey.

Still too squeamish to call it torture? The fundamental difference between terrorist organizations and authoritarian regimes on the one hand, and the civilized world on the other, is the latter's unwillingness to have recourse to violence. Policies of torture are unbecoming of a nation of people who purport to uphold the US constitution, regardless of the extreme methods adopted by our enemies. Once we sink to their level, we lose all our moral superiority and become victims of our own hate and fear as much as victims of the machinations of our opponents.

6 posts per day adds up to a lot if you keep it up for five years straight

i am at just under 4 1/2 posts per day and in my 5th year here, i am approaching 7500 total posts...i hope that makes me a "602" :)

I don't think there ever was a ppc 602 processor... at least in a mac. Am I wrong? 601, 603e and 604 (SWEET!).

And you seem to only believe that there is only one company can provide Apple it's components?

    There are loads of them.

And look at what Apple are doing with screens - they are sourcing parts from multiple companies to make the numbers. Which is exactly how Samsung will be taken apart if needs be.

However, that won't happen anytime soon as Samsung are in cast iron contracts to supply. Samsung defaults, and it will be in a world of financial hurt, far more than pesky patent rows. It will be up against a multi billion dollar default that will make BPs payout in the Gulf look like small change.

Oh again you have no idea how things work in that area.

Even with Samsung in a contract Samsung can still "delay" shipments and if Apple ever needs a rush order... Well opps that not going to happen.
When you piss off supplier or force them to do things it is when shipments become late, delayed and they are not willing to do anything that helps you out.
From working in an industry that used supplier and contract I saw and learned what can and does happen first hand when you piss off your suppliers and the worse part is they can all do it with in the bounds of the contract.

Samsung for example is going to be given so many days late on a shipment before punishment. They also will have a claus in there that accounts for some act of god happening and not getting punished, Japan earthquake for example has given them a pretty wide latituid to be a little late on shipments and receive zero financial punishment.

Breaking the contract would more than likely only be a few million in punishment fees.

Also as it has been pointed out before no one else can really pick up the slack. The entire market for those chips there has been a shortage for years. No one has covered that slack they are struggling across all company involved in production to keep up with the demand from multiple suppliers. Apple is less than 5% of the total market in what is bought up there. When you only are a buyer for less than 5% of the market that is in short supply you have zero control and does not mean someone else can even pick up the slack.
