I found this interesting:
Notebook Owners
Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your replacement coverage for a defective battery to three years from the date of your notebook purchase with the AppleCare Protection Plan. However, the AppleCare Protection Plan for notebook computers does not cover batteries that have failed or are exhibiting diminished capacity except when the failure or diminished capacity is the result of a manufacturing defect. Apple offers a battery replacement service for MacBook Air and all MacBook Pro notebooks with built-in batteries. You can purchase replacement batteries for late models of Apple notebooks directly from the Apple Store.
So what constitutes defective. Is there are criteria for measuring this that is disclosed or it it up to the repair tech?
The way I view this is that it essentially means 99.99% of the time the battery is not covered.
http://www.interrupt19.com/2009/02/09/apple-laptop-battery-defective/
That article provides some insight. In general, it has to be clearly defective before Apple will replace it. For current Macs it is 1000 cycles until it should drop below 80% but of course, Apple won't replace it if it has 999 cycles and it is at 79%.

I never understood the point of having GarageBand, Soundtrack and Logic in the line-up. But, I've gotta say, I love Soundtrack, bought it by itself and then bought Final Cut Pro later. I've got an extra copy now, if anyone wants it. ;-)

I removed my Samsung 470 SSD from an HP laptop that had Win 7 running. Trim was enabled automatically with Win 7. When I put it into my new Macbook Pro trim was not enabled. You can check by going into the Apple, then About, then More Info and finally into Serial ATA. When you scroll down you will see that trim is not enabled.( Without it, the SSD will fill up and slow down. Google it and see what it does). Groths.org had a Trim Enabler patch that worked perfectly. I downloaded it and clicked on it and it installed. When I went back into the Apple, etc I found that trim had been enabled. Kudos to Oskar. I dropped a couple of bucks on him from Paypal because I appreciate this kind of work. Maybe Apple will have trim enabled in the next OS, like Win7.
trim is only supported on SSD's that you buy from apple, and only recently.
As the other poster said, there haven't been problems with people running 3rd party SSD's w/o trim enabled. In fact some users have reported problems with their drives after enabling trim support.
If you really feel you must have it, search the boards, there is a tutorial here on how to enable it through some simple command lines.

I did what parapup suggested.
I went with OWC with their data doubler combo which was the 128SSD (115 usable) with the optibay for 279. I then bought the optical drive housing for 24 from max upgrades total around 310.
Its about what I wanted to spend and hopefully I'll only use the HD for data storage.
Stupid question, will the OSX install disc boot from the external drive or do I need to replace my main HD, then install osx, then replace the optical drive?
also, time machine will have no trouble right?
THANKS for all your help guys
It'll boot holding down the alt/option key. Time machine will have no troubles. Ideally the best time to do this is when your computer is new and you can clone your virgin disk with CCC. You than copy that to another partition, lets say USB drive. You'll never have to use the optical drive again.

This is what I'm doing:
I'm buying a refurbished iPad Wi-Fi 16GB directly from Apple (it's like new) and use it less than 14 days. Then I'm going to return it.

Absolutely. If you're on AT&T's $25.00/month plan it will cost you and extra $20 in the months when you do that. AT&T has told me that if you've got one of the old $30/month unlimited data plans you can use the iPhone as a hotspot with no additional charge.
Thanks, I have a 6Gb data plan for $30/mth and my supplier [Rogers in Canada] wants $10 per month to let the iPad share it. I'm assuming if I go the wifi only iPad and use the Hotspot I won't pay any more....I think :)

This is what alot of people believe but try and find a 1080p HDTV in the UK that can display 1080p from a source other than HDMI. All the major brands of HDTVs I looked at will only display a 1080p from HDMI although you can use component to display 1080i. Kind of defeats the purpose of buying a 1080p set though.
Matt
Fair enough, though there still aren't many sources of 1080p content in the UK.

It could, but it doesn't have that much space. I would hook it up to an external raid array.
I would recommend a Drobo S. (http://www.drobo.com/products/drobo-s.php)
It is not cheep, but I have 9 gigs of drives in it, 6 available. Great product, keeps your data safe, it's fast, and easily expandable.

It works! Thanks man! You're a life saver! I didn't think it was possible, but was just trying my luck here. You're awesome! :D
Lol you're welcome. :). That had been at the back of my mind for awhile, and hearing someone else that was annoyed with it gave me an excuse to look.

Sparky, I have my G5 on a time switch to reduce power consumption. It only folds when it's on (obviously), so that's about 6-7 hours a day. So, now is your chance to come close to me! Overtaking me is a whole different story!! :D Also, does increase come in a dual proc setup and does it/folding start automatically at startup?
How much faster the console version is Vs. the GUI client is hard to say. It really depends on how fast your Mac is. If you have an older Mac (say G3) then it's a significant difference. You have a bit of overhead on your proc of the images, which aren't completely for the Graphics card. Your proc also has to process it, giving a bit of overhead. My G3 400 Mhz B&W had a lot of this overhead with the GUI client. Increase will also give a bit, but less, overhead.

I used the V400 for a while. We didnt get a long to well. It was fine, the battery life was fine for me. Nothing un reasonable. 3-4 days is what I got. I seemed rather slow n sluggish at times. It also scratches very easier. Then my backlight died on it. ( Just one day went out.) I went into Cingular and they gave me a new one on the spot.
I was done with the phone though, and bought a V600 at the same time. (sold the new V400 on ebay) It much more durable IMO opinion.
I've since bought a V3.
All in all its a good phone. Nothing special IMO. but solid. So you would recomend the v600 over the v400 as far as battery life and quality?

Might go with D7000 and brand new DX lenses instead...

Thank you for the totally useless comment. If you had bothered reading my post, you might have noticed that I said that I was having the same problem when the device was NOT jailbroken. However, one cannot expect people like you to be able to read.
Why would you jailbreak if you're having problems such as this? It will only make it worse. Also, your post does not state that you had this problem before jail breaking. Unless it is on another thread...

I've created a page which includes the current world editable pages on the MacGuides wiki
http://guides.macrumors.com/Mac_Guides:WorldEdit
Only admins can change this page. And when u change it, the results are live. So you can add or remove world-editable pages to this list.
My eventual goal is to create a world-editable page of the week... which encourages user participation.
