Yuck, don't share an earbud. They get a little earwax on 'em, and guess why the earwax is there? To catch bugs, germs, mites, and dust before it gets to your ears. I wouldn't want to share your earbud -- nothing personal -- and you sure ain't welcome to use mine.

You want to share? Bring along some tiny headphones that don't stick into your ear -- remember those? Cheap as chips, so if you sit on 'em, no big loss. Let 'em sit at the bottom of your backpack til you need 'em.

Or let her plug in to your iPod, but then you won't be able to hear at the same time.

About Ballmer's choice of words: he's just trying to sound cool, and not sound like he spends all day in a suit, in an office with Windows machines, muted green cubicle walls, and a stinky fridge in the coffee room. "Squirt" is unintentional poetry -- Mac users share, but Windows users squirt? :D Steve, please, no more squirting on my network.

I think if you asked most of the population, the vast majority would find it 100% reasonable and appropriate that any retail company, in any business sector, decides what they will or won't sell in their store - be it WalMart, The Gap, Starbucks, or your local corner grocery store. Apples retail store is just that... a retail store --- and the norms of business retail don't go away, to be replaced by a magical la-la land where people get to do whatever they want.

In your case though, companies have alternatives to get their product out. The App store is virtually a monopoly. So, a company could spend months developing an app and have it rejected for any reason. Then, they would have no alternative to make the development cost back.

We were affected by the Three20 project rejections also. It cause a delay for us which in turn caused a delay to a client. They weren't too happy about it. That said, we tell all clients that we do not control Apple's process and the risk of delays is there.

It is frustrating and hopefully they make a change soon to alleviate some of these problems.

I had my HeatSink replaced a few weeks ago. I'd had random shutdowns every few hours, to then every few minutes, to then within a minute of booting. I took the MacBook into the Stanford Apple Store & they immediately knew what the issue was. It sounded like they'd seen it a lot. They had it overnight & returned it. Problem seems to be totally gone.

Question though: it says that this firmware fix is even for people who've had their heatsinks replaced. That seems odd, doesn't it? Either they put a better (sized) heatsink in, or they didn't. I'm hesitant to mess with it again & install this "fix". It ain't broke!

I wouldn't get the black. I had one, and it looked great fresh from the box, but looked old and tired 30 minutes later with grease marks all over it. Stick with the white as the smooth plastic finish doesn't show marks and is easier to clean.

Or maybe just wash your hands when you're done eating fried chicken?

Wal-Mart uses loss-leading priced CD sales to draw people into the store.

I work for Target... while we do not always underprice CD's, in many products, that is the case. If someone goes to buy that one product (that the store takes a loss on) the store hopes that they will pick up other items while they are there.

Target sells a lot of the iTunes pre-paid cards... and TONS of iPod accessories.

The next time she sends him out to buy pads, I'll bet she's more specific...

    Epic :D

Anyways, I'm glad to be gay - some heterosexual couples I know seem to be living in a d/s relationship, not quite the kind of thing I'm interested in.

Oh, and of course it's a nice move by Apple :P

I do understand people hate for 3D displays, but people calling it a fad, it's not. Not any more anyways.
It is now a part of technological evolution for TVs and image devices.
Calling 3D a fad right now is like calling colour TV a fad in the 1950s. Just like how colour TV to start wasn't perfect, 3D isn't perfect yet either.

We all know Apple is the king of imaging technologies, they wouldn't release a product with something like a 3D screen without it being perfect and "magical".

Perfect? I'm going on perfect iPad number 6 because of screen issues.

Anyway, 3D is a gimmick. I'd rather a TV with perfect blacks and color over a nauseating trick.

I let Wal Mart know that I don't approve of their practices by avoiding their stores. My money goes to other retailers.

This is getting out of control. Here's your touch iMac.

    http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4136/4814451500_373500a34b.jpg

Nothing more complicated than a big ar$e iPad, higher at the back than at the front for viewing angle. Ergonomically less complex than a pencil and paper.

I'm more interested in how to cool the thing, but the music electronics industry have been making keyboards and powered mixers for decades, so somebody knows how.

Noticed that the Mac Mini got a bump too? Core Duo 1.66 for the low end and Core Duo 1.87 for the high end version. But it seems like the low end version doesn't even has an option for a super drive? Weird...

The 24" iMac looks cool :)

    Piece of Cake

...including $30B for high speed rail, increased spending on alternative energy and education.

NICE WORK, that was even better than mine. Question though, how much did you gut military spending?

I reduced it to $100 Billion. Should still be plenty IMO as long as we aren't trying to uphold our global empire and keep fighting multiple wars.

Id also like to add that I increased spending on veterans, so you can save the "you don't support the troops" crap, I dont want to hear it.

Interesting anecdote, $100B is still more than every other country in the world. Go figure. So don't say I cut it too much, I didn't.

I hope what this shows the PC makers is that it's not just a race to the bottom as far as price is concerned, but that people are willing to pay more for a device if it's built well and does a good job.

Stop worrying about shaving that extra dollar off the price and providing the rock-bottom rickety low-cost PC that will fall apart in a few months; instead, go ahead and invest in computers with longer battery life, better build quality, and other useful features -- consumers are willing to pay for it.

Agreed... I think many manufactures are in a self imposed trap to increase sales through discount pricing. But they also cram in the specs to impress, but the components are sub-grade and the longevity is not there.

Case in point... a friend of mine is complaining about her desktop machine. It's about 2 and half years old and she's ready to replace it. Parts keep dying and performance degrades really fast.

So, the reality in todays market is, you can buy a cheap PC and you're signing up for about 3 years of on and off problems, or you can buy a Mac and get 5+ years of almost flawless to flawless performance.

The MBP I have now is almost 5 years old and has had no problems in that time. That in it's self has been worth every extra dime.

But again... from a general consumer standpoint... people get some iDevice, they love it, get to know Apple, visit the stores and see the excitement and then they're hooked... they want more.

That's not a poster, it's a big iPhone. They've got one in every store window. Different images scroll from bottom to top. Obviously this photo is in mid scroll.

BTW - All the iphones in iPhone commercials are very different than my iPhone. They show a small little photo of the person calling instead of a big full screen photo. Don't know why. It's the same in this ad.

If you take a pic with your iPhone and use it in your contacts, it will appear full screen.

If you assign a photo in your address book on the desktop, it will appear a small photo.

IMHO, the MacBook Pros won't come out until after the iPad has been shipped. As much as we'd like to think that Apple would take a "ship them both, they are in different market segments" approach the fact remains that it would compete, to a certain extent, for consumer dollars and Apple isn't going to dilute iPad sales like that.

Shoot, they took away the ability to "Upload checked episodes" for podcasts. If I listen to half an episode and then plug my iPod in, it will sync that podcast off my pod, even if I wanted to listen to the second half later. I have to go back to the podcast directory and "Mark as Unplayed" the podcast to get it back.

might return my MBP 17" and say mum said no....

wonder if i can score a freee MBP 17"

    Of course you won't.

It is more likely that the whole ipad thing didn't happen either. If it did, why are there no details. Why hasn't the guy stepped up to defend the blogs for not lying. Where are the photos of the ipad with the post it note.

Apple might give something like that away to heal negative PR like the whole "oh poor woman on welfare that saved up but doesn't have a bank account to pay for anything that yelled foul cause Apple, according to their legal rights, didn't take cash for a brief time" stuff last year (and don't try to tell me that she needs good credit for a checking account with a debit card). But they aren't going to hand one to someone for a lame reason like "my wife has me whipped and said I can't have any more toys"
